Arriving just in time for Valentine’s Day, “Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometime’ is described as “a lovingly curated collection of rarities, deep cuts and covers”.

It comprises some of Beck’s “most beloved standalone singles and soundtrack contributions, eclectic cover versions and a couple of exclusive previously unreleased recordings”.

The title track is the musician’s take on The Korgis’ ‘Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime’. His spin on the tune featured on the soundtrack to the 2004 romantic drama Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind. It has since remained a regular part of Beck’s live shows, especially at his recent orchestral concerts.

His renditions of Elvis Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’ and The Flamingos’ ‘I Only Have Eyes For You’ are included on the mini-album, too, as are tributes to John Lennon (‘Love’) and Caetano Veloso (‘Michelangelo Antonioni’).

The sole Beck original on the project comes in the form of ‘Ramona’ – one of his contributions to the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World soundtrack (2010).

What’s more, the release contains never-before-released recordings of two of Beck’s signature reinterpretations: Hank Williams’ ‘Your Cheatin’ Heart’ and Daniel Johnston’s ‘True Love Will Find You In The End’.

Beck released his latest full-length album, ‘Hyperspace’, in 2019. Last spring, he revealed that he was working on an orchestral record, shortly after playing two orchestral shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

The artist has also covered Jeff Buckley’s ‘Lilac Wine’ with Arooj Aftab for the star-studded ‘HELP(2)’ charity album for War Child.
