It has been nearly three weeks since Biden was declared the next President of the United States. Since then, Americans have been waiting for Donald Trump to stop his temper tantrum and suiting swing states he lost an early lead in, not allowing for states to certify their votes and formally begin the transition process.
But yesterday, Emily Murphy, General Services Administrator Chief, wrote a letter to President-elect Joe Biden, saying that the Trump administration is ready to begin the formal transition process.
“Please know that I came to my decision independently, based on the law and available facts,” Murphy said in the letter. “I was never directly or indirectly pressured by any Executive Branch official—including those who work at the White House or GSA—with regard to the substance or timing of my decision.”
This is the final blow to the Trump administration’s hopes of reclaiming the presidency for another term. It’s not like he ever had a chance after losing by 74 electoral votes and nearly 6 million popular votes. Trump and his band of ragtag attorneys have spent the last few weeks filing baseless lawsuits against states Trump had an early lead in, all while ignoring cries from the public being ravaged by COVID-19.
Yet, before the letter from Emily Murphy, the Biden-Harris team had been working steadfast in trying to get as much information as they could in order to make the transition process as smooth as they could. Biden recently unveiled a slew of high profile cabinet appointments.
Even though the formal transition process will begin, Trump said in a string of Tweets that he will not concede and will continue the fight to the presidency.
