Component is an up-and-coming techno producer whose new album ‘Plan G’ is an innovative mix of raw percussion, industrial sounds and euphoric vocals.
The 13-track release focuses mainly on raw and driving techno that packs a peak time energy, but the vocals give it a classic trance influence. This unusual combination has led to an eclectic mix of DJ support ranging from Nicole Moudaber to Marcel Dettmann.
‘Plan G’ is out on Component’s self-titled record label, Component. He has also featured music on other imprints including Gobsmacked Records, ITU and Archivio 01.
“A Hero’s Journey” opens the release with bleeping synth melodies and breakbeat percussion rhythms that are surrounded by dystopian pads. It’s an attention-grabbing track that locks in the listener, and sets the scene for what’s to follow.
Track two, “Still Remember” is the first introduction of the euphoric vocals being layered over a backing track of industrial textures and heavy percussion. The vocal is introduced as trippy snippets that are combined with rippling melodies to create a mesmerising atmosphere.
The release unfolds with a contrast of vocal tracks such as “With Me,” “Set You Apart,” “Taking Off” and “Your Hidden Light” that have emotive elements, but there are also other tracks like “Are We Dreaming?” that have swirling analogue synths creating fierce grooves that are full of tension.
This is an intriguing release that can be carved into solo tracks for DJ use, but is equally good as a body of music that tells a story across the peaks and troughs of the thirteen tracks.
