Mystikal Transferred to Angola State Penitentiary Following 20-Year Sentence

Louisiana rapper Mystikal, born Michael Tyler, has been officially transferred to the Angola State Penitentiary to begin serving his 20-year prison sentence. The transfer marks a somber chapter for the artist, who will be held in a single-occupancy cell due to his status as a public figure.

The sentencing follows a 2022 incident at the rapper’s home in Prairieville. During the legal proceedings, the victim provided harrowing testimony, detailing physical abuse and sexual assault. In a moment of courtroom confrontation, the victim requested the maximum penalty, describing the trauma inflicted upon her. When given the opportunity to speak, Tyler addressed the court, stating, “If I did that to you, I deserve the max sentence.”

The legal resolution stems from a plea agreement finalized in March. While Tyler originally faced a first-degree rape charge that carried the potential for a life sentence, he ultimately pleaded guilty to an amended charge of third-degree rape. This agreement capped his incarceration at 20 years, five years shy of the maximum penalty for the amended charge.

Following the sentencing, the rapper’s son, Million Tyler, spoke publicly about the emotional toll the situation has taken on their family. Reflecting on the gravity of the proceedings, he expressed a hope for his father’s personal growth, noting, “I hope you get the help you need. I really hope you do.”
