NGHTMRE, Liquid Stranger, And Mougleta Team Up On Festival-Ready Dubstep Anthem “Restless”

Los-Angeles-based NGHTMRE and Sweden’s Liquid Stranger are two of the most formidable forces in the electronic music scene.

The former has become renowned for his ability to transcend genres to the delight of a rabid fanbase, while the latter has solidified his status as a titan in the bass world. The two heavyweights are joining forces for their first collaborative effort. “Restless” is a coalescence of their production prowess with the incredible vocal talents of Canadian singer/songwriter Mougleta rounding it out.

The track arrives on NGHTMRE’s own Gud Vibrations imprint as the final salvo ahead of his forthcoming ‘UNSOUND 2’ EP. It follows the success of a string of triple-pronged singles preceding the package, which took the shape of “Thrilla” with Juelz and ShaSimone, “In Your Eyes” with Jon Casey and Pauline Herr, and “All Night” with Rezz and DeathbyRomy.

“Restless” sees the triple threat fusing their talents for a truly epic sonic offering. Mougleta’s commanding vocals muse about rising above adversity, as her resiliency radiates against a contemplative undercurrent. The waves of emotion swell with melancholic piano chords and tension-building percussion. The two low-end maestros flip the script, taking the looped vocals into an onslaught of drilling synth oscillations, echoing vox, and punchy drums. The ballistic switch-up is replete with metallic clanks, laser synth leads, and growling shots. Expertly transitioning from an uplifting ballad into devious dubstep destruction, “Restless” is a monumental anthem that speaks to the immense talent possessed by its creators.

NGHTMRE breaks down how the single came to be: “I first found Liquid Stranger’s music back in 2009, when I was graduating high school. I had just picked up music production and was incredibly inspired by all his bass-heavy dubstep tunes. I’ve wanted to collaborate with him for many years and after sharing a festival transport together, we finally got to meet and talk music! I shared a few vocals I had received that I really loved and he resonated with ‘Restless’ the most. We worked remotely sending ideas back and forth until it was perfectly dialed! Not only was he great to work with, but he is an incredibly nice and genuine person. I’m so happy with how this one ended up sounding. We are already talking about starting another collab!”

Liquid Stranger shares his excitement about the collaborative process: “I’ve been a huge fan of NGHTMRE’s work for years, and after connecting while on the road, we set out to make something special. We wanted to combine elements of both of our sounds with a strong vocal to create an anthem; a tall order. We found the perfect vocal via Mougleta, with lyrics that spoke to us since it reminded us of our busy, rootless, and restless lifestyle. We took our time and really tried to give it the attention it deserved, making it truly special. I’m extremely happy with how it came out and have been testing it at all my shows. Working with Tyler [NGHTMRE] has been a great experience, he’s an amazing person and it’s been really fun to work on this one together. I can’t wait to cook up something else with him in the future.”
