Packed with big room, hard dance, and electro influences, “Weekend” revamps an old classic, turning it up to match the energy of a wild festival crowd. Their global tour has cemented this track as a staple, and the crowd’s reaction has been nothing short of electric.
Matt and Chris Stafford have been in the scene for quite some time. They’ve dominated stages from Tomorrowland to Ultra Music Festival. Along the way, they’ve partnered with artists from across the musical spectrum. Whether it’s their collaboration with G4BBA on “BÉSAME MUCHO” or their Latin-inspired tech releases, the brothers continuously bring something fresh to the table.
Throughout their career, the Stafford Brothers have earned countless accolades. Triple platinum singles, performances at legendary venues, and collaborations with heavyweights like Lil Wayne and Christina Milian—they’ve achieved it all. These Aussies show no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
The Stafford Brothers sat down with us to talk about a variety of subjects including BLANK. See the interview sharing all the details directly below!
Exclusive Interview
Q: Who were some of your earliest musical inspirations? Who are they now?
We grew up listening to everything from Hip Hop, Rock but in the early dance music scene we
were into happy hardcore and hardhouse. Ultrasonic, Scooter and the Klubbheads were all artists
we were into. One thing that changed our sound was we won a trip to Ibiza and heard Another
Chance by Roger Sanchez on Bora Bora beach in Ibiza. That moment changed everything and
our sound. We were buying hardhouse vinyl at that time and when we came back from that trip
we started buying a lot more house music and went in that direction. It’s amazing as a lot of that
music from then has come back and it has been updated. We always respect what Skrillex does.
His sound and performance has changed and developed over the years is impressive. His music
with Jack U and now he’s having another amazing run with Fred Again. He’s extremely versatile.
Q: How and when did you hone in on your “signature” sound?
It was a mix of rock and electronic influences that shaped our sound. When we moved to
America we could see a gap in the market fusing Hip-Hop with EDM. That blend of genres
really helped us carve out our niche and enabled us to work with hip-hop legends like Lil Wayne,
Rick Ross and Ti. Now I feel we’re taking influence from back in those Hardhouse days with the
vocals and ideas we’re using.
Q: There must be plenty of pros and cons to being brothers that work together. What are
some of them?
We’re best friends as well as a close family so that helps making working together easier. I think
being on the road can be very lonely for artists. Having a best friend on the road I have never felt
that. We love basically the same thing so we eat, workout together. We have worked together and
we even lived together most of our lives until recently so we know how to read each other so we
know how to give each other space. We both have different skill sets that compliment each other
so each of us know their roles. I don’t think there’s any cons but perhaps Matt has some I don’t
know of….
Q: Are there any memorable stories you can share (from a live show, studio session,
touring) that might surprise your fans?
Our mum and dad still come to our shows. We were dj’ing at Marquee pool in Vegas when our
dad got in the middle of the pool fully clothed and everyone was splashing him. Mum and Dad
went straight from the pool party to the airport drenched and flew back to Austraila. We
definitely get it from our parents.
Q: When did you make your latest single “Weekend”?
We started working on Weekend earlier this year. It came together pretty quickly
Q: What inspired the record, and where do you tend to draw inspiration when creating in
the studio?
As I mentioned earlier we are getting a lot of inspiration from songs we used to play when we
began dj’ing. The idea is from a track we used to love from back in the day. A lot of our
inspiration comes from dj’ing or seeing another artist at a live shows. Seeing what tracks work
better than others can give us inspiration to start an idea. We took inspiration from the original
track but made it more current sounding.
Q: How long after the track was finished did you wait to release it?
We didn’t sit on Weekend for too long. Once it was finished we locked in a release date with the
label to get it out there. Everything moves so quickly these days so while it’s fresh you want it
out before people have moved onto a new sound.
Q: Do you usually release music right away after completing it, or do you prefer to sit with
a record for some time before putting it out? Why?
It depends. Sometimes we’ll sit on a track if we’re planning a bigger release moment but I think
the current market it’s better to get music out as soon as you can.
Q: Which of your own productions are your personal favorites? Favorites to play live?
Turn Up Volume is a favorite to play out as it was a fresh sound so it was great to see it work on
dancefloor. Wherever is an older song of ours but still a favourite as it has our cousin Frank
Stafford singing on it. Hello has to be up there as it’s our most successful to date and opened up
many doors to have a successful career.
Q: Outside of dance music, who are some of your favorite artists to listen to?
Our music taste is all over the place. NWA, ACDC and we love folk music like Jose Gonzalez.

Q: If you could offer a piece of non-traditional advice to aspiring DJs, what would it be and
why?
Be open minded to all music as inspiration can come from anywhere. Be humble, respect others
and learn from others. This job is amazing so have fun! Otherwise what’s the point.
