After going through about 100 different versions, Cassian has finally shared his remake of ICEHOUSE‘s “Great Southern Land,” a captivating melodic cover of the original classic from 1982 that’s been nearly a year in the making. As an Australian, Cassian “dreamed about making his own version for 10 years before reaching out to see if it was possible.” And after receiving the go ahead from ICEHOUSE, Cassian stated that “being involved with the legacy of this song is probably the greatest honor of my career thus far.”
Fresh off his “My City’s On Fire” co-remix with Anyma, Cassian’s comment sections were constantly littered with requests for “Great Southern Land.” Fittingly arriving through RÜFÜS DU SOL‘s Rose Avenue Records, the breathtaking update first began making the social media rounds at the beginning of 2023 when Tale of Us shared a video of the majestic Tulum jungle while playing it out. And in the time since, Cassian has taken over Coachella‘s Do LaB, Printworks, Lollapalooza, and plenty more with his stunning reimagining on the Australia classic more than three decades later, offering a fresh update that’s sure to appeal to listeners both electronic and rock music.
