An early contender for track of the year has landed. Just two months after its inconspicuous debut during their headline show at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Kx5 and Sofi Tukker‘s collaboration, “Sacrifice,” has gotten an official release. It’s the sixth single to succeed Kaskade and deadmau5‘s announcement their “boy band” project, Kx5, and it arrives fresh on the heels of their announcement of their self-titled debut album, due to release on March 17.
“Sacrifice” features a haunting vocal from Sofi Tukker laid atop Kx5’s driving melodic-techno production. As with previous Kx5 singles, their latest output pays homage to the their signature progressive sound from years past, effortlessly combining it with forward-thinking sound design that uniquely strikes a balance between the familiar and the emergent. Just as it did on that December night in the crisp Los Angeles air in front of a record setting crowd of 50,000, “Sacrifice” grips listeners, drawing them in through its intimate builds before unleashing the full scale of Kx5 and Sofi Tukker’s club-ready production at the breaks.
With the sixth and likely final single out in the world, the focus now turns to Kx5’s debut album, and if the previews are any indication, fans are in for an earworm.
In the live space, Kx5 are fresh off a date at Printworks in London and continue to prepare for their debut performance at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, which will come just a little over a week after the release of Kx5.
