After 10 months in between original releases, Last Heroes are back. The duo’s return to the release radar isn’t just a one-off—however—being paired with the announcement that their freshman album will land on Lowly. sometime in the coming months. And its first single—doubling as Last Heroes’ first release since “Start It Over” in April of 2022—is already here in the form of “Odd Ones Out” with RUNN and Dia Frampton.
“Odd Ones Out” isn’t just any ordinary lead single, having received inclusion on Dancing Astronaut‘s most-anticipated IDs of 2023 list after it becoming a highlight moment in their sets while touring alongside Jason Ross and others throughout this past year. And a duet from Dancing Astronaut Supernova RUNN as well as Dia Frampton secure that “Odd Ones Out” is nothing short of a melodic bass super-collaboration that features a pair of dance music’s most highly regarded singer-songwriters. It also adds another notch to Last Heroes and RUNN’s serial collaborator lineage, with three previous releases—”Knowing How To Break,” “Waiting For You,” and “Love Like Us“—already under their belt. As for Frampton, it’s the first time she’s worked with the duo, but given her collaborative history with the likes of ILLENIUM, Seven Lions, William Black, Dabin, and Jason Ross, it seemed to be only a matter of time before Last Heroes were the next to join that list. And Last Heroes dove into how one of Dancing Astronaut‘s favorite IDs of the year came to be, explaining,
“‘Odd Ones Out’ was one of our favorite ideas we started in a snowy forest cabin just over a year ago. Garrett came up with the opening guitar idea early in the morning and the song took off from there. It shaped into a reflection of our growth and relationships, and RUNN & Dia Frampton’s writing later really brought the song to life. We’re so happy to share this as the lead single off our upcoming debut album.”
Last Heroes’ debut LP will ultimately follow in the footsteps of previous bodies of work that include their debut EP Moments as well as a pair of follow-up EPs, Finding Light and Threads, which all released on Seven Lions’ Opehlia Records. And for what will amount to their biggest project thus far, Last Heroes’ next chapter sees them join the likes of NGHTMRE, Kaivon and BONNIE X CLYDE as artists to align with Lowly. for the release their debut albums.
