Production Club, the creative studio behind diverse immersive experiences including Intersect Festival, Art Basel‘s Bio-Haque party, and more, has unveiled Micrashell—a personal protective equipment concept that allows for human interaction in social settings. Marking the dual Los Angeles and Spain-headquartered company’s foray into product design, Micrashell intends to be a solution for the catastrophic effects of COVID-19 on the gig economy, events world, and interconnected industries, and safely bring people together back in those settings once again.
“With everyone in our industry focused on developing virtual solutions we decided to focus on something more emotional, physical and inherently human so the industry as a whole could have a broader chance to recover promptly. The team behind the design comes from a very multidisciplinary background, from robotics, to fashion to vfx. We worked in 12h shifts between Spain and LA until the design was done. That’s how Micrashell was born,” states Head of Inventions, Mike808.
With pragmatic design points, the Micrashell is a virus-shielded, disinfectable, and easy-to-control suit that allows for wearers to socialize at nightlife gatherings, entertainment events, and concerts. Its protective measures include an air-tight top suit comprised of cut-resistant fabric and helmet that uses a filtration system based on N95 NIOSH-approved standards. Other accessibility functions include wireless voice communication with audio control settings, a pan and tilt camera system that allows users to sync their phone and record footage, and RGBW lighting system that communicates user moods, needs, and other social cues.
Keeping in mind nightlife-centric functionality, the design concept also boasts beverage and vape consumption, easy deployment, and sound system features. Beverages and vapes can be loaded via designated chambers underneath the helmet. Meanwhile, the suit’s top-half design is not only restroom-friendly, but sex-friendly. Micrashell’s internal sound system gives users three modes to listen to live music—a direct stream from the DJ or artist, an emulation, or through the embedded microphones.
“We believe events are essential to the human experience and create the memories that define our lives. While we might not see a Coachella-sized event for some time, we are excited by the challenge to create innovative solutions to push forward quality live entertainment and human connection,” states Head of Special Projects, Corey Johnson.
