In accordance to the latest CDC guidelines, New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the state will allow almost all businesses and public venues to operate at full capacity without masks or social distancing, provided the venue is hosting patrons that can provide proof of vaccination. Exempt from this statement are schools, public transit, homeless shelters, correctional facilities, nursing homes, and healthcare settings until more New Yorkers are vaccinated. Currently, the New York state’s vaccinated population rate sits at around 45% of citizens.
Pushing venues and event organizers to be as safe as possible, Cuomo said, “You can go to 100 percent vaccinated,” in a speech from Radio City Music Hall. Additionally, Cuomo revealed that Radio City would open at 100% capacity for the world-renowned Tribeca Film Festival taking place June 9 to June 20.
“This beautiful hall will be filled once again with what I am sure is going to be a phenomenal, phenomenal evening and attraction. Having Radio City back at a hundred percent without masks, with people enjoying New York and the New York arts, is going to be not only symbolic and metaphoric, but I think it’s going to go a long way towards bringing back this state overall.”
Venue entry protocols under Cuomo’s newly enacted guidelines are still unclear, though IQ Magazine reports that New York state’s free Excelsior Pass mobile app may be one method of determining the vaccination statuses of patrons at public venues with the use of scannable QR codes. Given this news, alongside the sheer volume of lineups that have landed in the last month, it certainly seems like concertgoers are starting to see the light after a very dark year.
