Speculation surrounding a new Skrillex album(s) has been swirling pretty much since the moment his his first solo LP, the now-classic Recess, came out over six years ago. Fans have been waiting on pins and needles ever since, though the waiting game may have just reached a head. The OWSLA boss cleared his entire Instagram feed, leaving only two photos and a heaping dose of hype for what’s to come.
Between his 2014 studio debut and now, Skrillex has done so much. He toured the world as half of Jack Ü, his bouncing and breaking side project with Diplo. He’s worked with a variety of rappers, pop artists, and other musicians outside the dance space including Wale, Sirah, and Ed Sheeran and most recently Lady Gaga. He revived Dog Blood with Boys Noize, and subsequently received another Grammy nomination as a result. To tide fans over, Skrillex even dropped off a handful of setlist weapons on 2019’s short Show Tracks EP. The one thing Skrillex hasn’t done however— drop a new album. That said, perhaps his recent Instagram purge is a sign of just that? In any event, the social media reset has fans at the edge of their seats.
Only two posts remain on the profile at this point. One of Skrillex “killing the mixer” in the midst of a set. The other is a lyric video for the untitled song Skrillex produced with Ty Dolla $ign in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
What’s next? Anybody’s guess. But Skrillex has something up his sleeve and something tells us we’re about to find out what it is.
