Making the call earlier this year to add lyrics to their platform, Spotify has now just announced the decision to acquire Heardle, a music-based trivia game that followed in Wordle’s massively successful footsteps.
Without disclosing how much the acquisition cost, Spotify has announced that the game will remain free and there is no plan to make any fundamental changes to the game other than allowing players to listen to the full song on Spotify once the player has finished their game. Global head of music at Spotify, Jeremy Erlich was quoted earlier this week speaking on the buy-out saying,
“Heardle has proven to be a really fun way to connect millions of fans with songs they know and love and with new songs… and a way to compete with their friends as to who has the best musical knowledge.” He continues, “Since its debut, the game has quickly built a loyal following, and it aligns with our plans to deepen interactivity across the Spotify ecosystem.”
The first countries the change will be made available to start with the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, with the prospect of bringing it to the hands of millions more music-devotees in a multitude of languages.
