According to new data from music e-commerce platform, Beatport, tech-house continues to make the biggest waves in dance music for 2022, officially ranking as electronic music’s most popular genre. Perhaps a microcosmic reflection of electronic music as a broader whole, what once was considered to be a more underground genre has now elevated itself to the headlining spot of all electronic sub-genres. Perfect soundtracking for everything from frat parties to steamy club venues, and now firmly considered main stage festival ammunition, tech-house has become inescapable in recent years, now officially giving house music a slight edge over the previous leading genre by sales, techno.
The new report, released at Ibiza’s International Music Summit via Beatport sales data, shows that tech-house sold more records than any other genre, overtaking techno, bumping the genre to the two spot. In addition to the best-selling genres, the International Music Summit report showed the rise of the dance music industry in 2022. Likely due to COVID restrictions being lifted, the valuation of music festivals and clubs have increased by a whopping $1.6 billion in 2022.
