The Avalanches and Tony Hawk partner for rare X-ray vinyl fundraiser

The Avalanches have come together with skateboarding icon Tony Hawk to offer a one-of-a-kind vinyl record to a lucky winner. The translucent vinyl features a scan of Hawk’s dislocated fingers, containing the single “Reflecting Light,” from The Avalanches’ forthcoming third album. Partnering with Melbourne vinyl factory Small Run, the Australian act have produced a limited X-ray film pressed vinyl of their single. The special edition 7-inch record spawns only 12 copies; however, only one of them contains an X-ray of Hawk’s June skating injury.

The Avalanches also revealed that the concept is a tribute to the “bone records” of the Soviet era, which witnessed records being cut onto X-ray film in order to be smuggled past authorities. The fundraiser will go towards the skate pro’s nonprofit, the Skate Park Project—an organization that supports underserved communities through advocating and building high-quality public skateparks. Donations of any amount will count as entries towards winning the prize.

The deadline for entries will be October 2 and the winner will be revealed on October 6. Learn more and enter here.

Lovers of life! In a tribute to the 'bone records' of the 1950's Soviet era, (where banned western records were cut onto X-Ray film and smuggled into the USSR to avoid authorities) we've come together with the one and only @tonyhawk for a unique one off pressing. Printed onto film and mounted onto transparent PVC, this X-Ray of Tony’s June skating injury is limited to one only, and plays our new single 'Reflecting Light' in all it's translucent 45 rpm glory. Donate ANY amount to Tony’s ‘The Skatepark Project’ via the link in our bio, and you will automatically enter the draw to win this one – off 7” record. Thank you @tonyhawk for the work you do and for so kindly offering your X-Ray for this project. @theskateparkproject supports disadvantaged communities and at-risk children, and to-date has awarded over $10-million to more than 600 public skatepark projects across the U.S and $150,000 in support of the Skateistan program in Afghanistan, Cambodia, and South Africa.
