Despite the cancellation of Burning Man in 2021 due to the pandemic, a second Virtual Burn event will be made available online for those who wish to return to Black Rock City from the comfort of their own homes. Tickets for the event are available here, with the second Virtual Burn taking place from August 22 until September 7.
The event will feature a virtual recreation of Black Rock City, fit with art displays and more than 200 camps. Fans will be able to access the virtual Burning Man event via their mobile phones or VR headsets, and will have the ability to wander around the playa using 3D avatars.
Burning Man announced in April that it would be cancelling its 2021 in-person event due to the current pandemic, and hopes to be able to return to its home in Black Rock City in 2022. Prior to the event’s cancellation, the festival had been considering making vaccines mandatory for all attendees. Burning Man had also changed the name of its 2021 event from “Terra Incognita” to “The Great Unknown” due to the original theme’s insensitive connotations.
