The first edition of Tomorrowland‘s digital festival, Tomorrowland Around the World, has received the Favourite Website Award (FWA) for the month of August, a distinguished honor from the largest online award program in digital design and development.
The FWA was founded in 2000, and has since grown into the largest online award program, showcasing cutting-edge creativity and innovation in digital design and development. Each month, the FWA jury—an international team of more than 300 judges—selects the best project as “FWA of the Month,” with previous winners from recent months including Google, Nike, Samsung, and Universal Pictures. Tomorrowland notably beat out high-profile competition for the August FWA, including Amazon and Spotify.
Tomorrowland Around the World, a two-day digital replacement for the in-person festival held at the end of July, managed to host more than 60 of the world’s most prominent artists in electronic dance music such as David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Charlotte de Witte, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Martin Garrix, Steve Aoki, Tiësto, Tale Of Us, Gryffin, and NGHTMRE, who performed their newest tracks across eight different stages on the magical island of Pāpiliōnem.
In collaboration with the Belgium-based studio-design team, Dogstudio, Tomorrowland brought the WebGL-powered 3D island to life, enabling visitors from all around the world to join the experience on their desktops, tablets, and mobile devices, attracting more than 1 million viewers by the digital festival’s close. Although there is high uncertainty about when exactly festival-goers will participate non-virtually at Tomorrowland, the success of Tomorrowland Around the World has precipitated a realm of expanded opportunity in the future innovation of digital festival technology.
