Before the true severity of the COVID-19 pandemic was even fully known in early March, Tomorrowland Winter joined Ultra Music Festival as the first two major events to formally shut down their 2020 plans.
As the coronavirus outbreak continues to plague the future of live entertainment with overwhelming uncertainty, the week-long festival held in the French Alps is also ahead in 2021 event cancellations following organizers’ statement that Tomorrowland Winter would not realize its March 2021 edition. In a formal statement issued on the festival’s website, Tomorrowland Winter coordinators said,
“Tomorrowland Winter 2021 cannot take place due to the uncertain circumstances created by COVID-19. Organizing a festival such as Tomorrowland Winter requires a lot of preparation, both by the organizers and local partners, as well as by you, the People of Tomorrow. Considering the current lack of prospects for the coming months, Tomorrowland has no choice but to not organize a Tomorrowland Winter edition in 2021.”
Ticket buyers will be contacted by e-mail in the coming days regarding refunds, according to organizers. It is currently unclear whether transferring tickets to a succeeding iteration of Tomorrowland Winter will be an option because no information regarding the festival’s potential return in 2022 was disclosed.
