New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced that the COVID-19 vaccination will no longer be necessary to attend concerts and shows beginning May of 2022. In addition to shows, restaurants, bars, and gyms will all no longer be required to adhere to the mandate. While the city will no longer enforce vaccination mandates, private businesses still have the flexibility of asking for vaccinations on their own accord.
With vaccination being enforced since 2021’s return of shows in New York, this is a sign that there are enough immunized residents in the city that COVID-19 may not be as much of a risk factor for shows moving forward. This is another step in the right direction as the brief spike in January of 2022 saw concerts around the world come to a halt.
The trend for the music industry is heading in the direction of no vaccination requirements at festivals, concerts, and club shows. While there are still plenty of clubs that require vaccination in cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco, Goldenvoice has announced they will not be checking vaccination status at their events moving forward. Specifically, these implications are felt for Coachella and Stagecoach, where festival organizers look to recoup money lost over the last few years.
