Tech House was the most popular Beatport genre for the third year in a row, according to “State of Music” address data from Viberate. Data from the music research and analytics platform, co-founded by techno veteran UMEK, demonstrated that 44% of the top 100 Beatport tracks in 2021 were categorized as tech-house. Beyond Tech House, the most popular Beatport genres in 2021 included Melodic House & Techno, House, Techno Peak Time / Driving, and Drum & Bass, to name just the top five.
To develop its “State of Music” address, Viberate analyzed more than 1 trillion data points. These data points included millions of tracks and videos, thousands of artists and playlists, and hundreds of festivals. All data points were gathered from key social media and music channels.
Regarding artist performance, ARTBAT were found to be the most successful in Tech House genre. In the House, Techno, and Drum & Bass genres, the highest-performing artists of 2021 were John Summit, Space92, and Break, respectively. The winning track was “Set U Free (Extended Mix)” by Guz.
The report also pinpointed the top 10 fastest-rising labels releasing on Beatport. Anjunadeep, Sink or Swim, and Ministry of Sound Recordings took the top three spots. Tech House retained its prominence in the label field, with seven of the 10 fastest-rising labels mainly focusing on the genre, according to the data.
“Tech House hits that sweet spot between funky and heavy, so it’s no wonder it remains a hit among DJs and fans. Years ago, DJs had to rely on educated guesses about popular tastes; now, we finally have the numbers to help us know what’s up. That’s why we created both the platform and the report—once the knowledge is out there, we can all grow,” UMEK said.
