Retired Detective Testifies on Keefe D’s Claims Regarding Tupac Shakur Shooting

In a significant development regarding the long-standing investigation into the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur, retired Los Angeles police detective Daryn Dupree provided testimony on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. The testimony centered on statements allegedly made by Duane “Keefe D” Davis to investigators during a 2008 interview.

Dupree, who previously served on a specialized task force dedicated to the 1997 murder of The Notorious B.I.G., detailed how Davis implicated Sean “Puffy” Combs in the events surrounding the deaths of both Shakur and Death Row Records founder Suge Knight. According to Dupree, Davis claimed that Combs was allegedly connected to funds intended to facilitate the Tupac Shakur murder.

Duane "Keefe D" Davis told police in 2008 about his involvement in Tupac Shakur's shooting and said Sean "Puffy" Combs offered to pay for the murders of Shakur and Death Row Records founder Marion "Suge" Knight, according to testimony from a retired Los Angeles police detective.… pic.twitter.com/lykvig6ICR

The testimony highlighted a specific allegation that Combs was supposed to have provided money to an individual named Zip Martin, which was then intended for Davis as payment for the hit on Shakur. Dupree recounted that Davis expressed a desire to reconnect with Martin to discuss the missing funds, leading investigators to accompany Davis to New York in an undercover capacity. However, the attempt to secure information from Martin proved unsuccessful, as he was reportedly ill and no longer active in the business.

During the proceedings, Clark County Chief Deputy District Attorney Marc DiGiacomo questioned Dupree regarding the potential involvement of law enforcement in the murder of Christopher Wallace, known professionally as The Notorious B.I.G. Dupree clarified the findings of his task force, stating definitively, “We found out that there was not any police officer involved.”
