French Montana says his link up with Jay-Z is more than likely on the way. Back in November 2020, the New York rapper dropped the 5th installment of his reoccurring mixtape, CB5 (Coke Boys 5). The project featured cameos from the late Pop Smoke & Chinx. French also tapped Lil Durk, Jack Harlow, Max B, Benny The Butcher, NBA Youngboy & more. With the momentum carrying over from the project into the New Year, Montana looks to capitalize.
During the early stages of Verzuz, both artists and fans alike began to pit names together to anticipate potential Verzuz matchups. In French’s case, during an interview, he stated that he may “outshine” TDE rapper Kendrick Lamar if the two were headlining a festival.
He also tweeted that he and K-Dot would go neck and neck if “anthems” or “hit for hit” is the criteria. His statement was met with much ridicule from Twitter and even garnered some commentary from YSL CEO, Young Thug. French later tweeted in clarification that his statement derived from a place of confidence and not disrespect.
Well French has another chance to add to his list of anthems. During an interview on DJ Semtex’s “Hip-Hop Raised Me” podcast, the “No Stylist” rapper says he and Jay-Z have found the perfect record to collaborate on.
“The only person I haven’t worked with yet and we just found the song ,” started French. “I mean, I worked with him on other people’s songs. But me and him never had like, you know, one of the Montana hooks.” And we finally found the song.
French did not give a timeline on the release of the potential track. He did state they are “going back and forth” on the creative of the record, but it has been confirmed.
