Harlem rap icon Cam’ron has offered a candid assessment of Jay-Z’s recent Roots Picnic freestyle, expressing that the performance failed to resonate with him. The veteran artist pointed to the inherent competitiveness of the hip-hop landscape, suggesting that the very act of stepping into the booth for such a performance reveals a vulnerability in the Brooklyn mogul.
“For him to even do that, he’s wild competitive,” Cam’ron remarked, noting that the public often perceives Jay-Z as an untouchable figure in the industry. “Must’ve came down ‘cause you paying attention to what n***as is saying.”
Cam’ron further suggested that because the freestyle missed the mark, it provides a strategic opening for Drake to capitalize on the moment. He emphasized that the current discourse surrounding chart dominance cannot be ignored, particularly given the historical context of how Jay-Z has previously championed his own commercial success.
“Now that Drake is killing him in the numbers, n***as is like, ‘Why don’t numbers count now?’” Cam’ron added, highlighting the shifting goalposts in the ongoing debate over rap supremacy.
