Motown Records has officially announced the launch of the New Legends Internship Program, a pioneering initiative dedicated to creating meaningful professional pathways for students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). By bridging the gap between academic talent and the music industry, the program seeks to cultivate the next generation of executives, creatives, and innovators.
The inaugural cohort is scheduled to participate in a 10-week immersive experience running from June 8 through August 14. During this period, interns will receive hands-on exposure to critical facets of the music business, including Marketing, Creative, Digital, and A&R departments. The program, which coincides with Black Music Month, is designed to provide participants with direct involvement in day-to-day operations, strategic project management, and executive mentorship.
Motown has always been committed to discovering and developing talent that shapes culture. With New Legends, we’re extending that legacy beyond artists and into the future executives, creatives, marketers and innovators who will help define the next era of the music industry. — Dante Smith, SVP Marketing & Head of Motown Digital at Motown Records
The first group of New Legends interns hails from several prestigious institutions, including Howard University, Morgan State University, North Carolina A&T State University, and Spelman College. By working alongside established Motown teams, these students will gain a comprehensive, behind-the-scenes perspective on the modern music business, equipping them with the essential skills and professional networks required for long-term career success.
