Third Major Wildfire Hits LA: Sylmar Fire Threatens Homes

Firefighters in Los Angeles County are facing yet another challenge as the Sylmar Fire, also known as the Hurst Fire, rapidly spreads.

Reported at around 10:10 PM near the 15900 block of W. Yarnell Street, this fire has already consumed over 100 acres of brush, prompting immediate evacuation orders.

The blaze is located behind the Olive View-UCLA Medical Center and is moving at a “rapid rate of spread,” according to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). Eyewitnesses, including California Highway Patrol officers, described an entire mountainside engulfed in flames.

Evacuation Zones

Residents living north of the I-210 Freeway from Roxford to the I-5/SR-14 Freeway split have been ordered to evacuate immediately. The situation remains volatile, with LAFD urging everyone in the affected areas to follow official instructions and leave without delay.

Additional Fire Challenges in LA County

The Sylmar Fire is the third major wildfire burning in Los Angeles County. Earlier Tuesday, the Palisades Fire exploded to over 2,900 acres in the Pacific Palisades, and the Eaton Fire ignited in the canyons above Altadena. Both fires have already prompted large-scale evacuations and federal funding requests.

Complicating the firefighting efforts is a severe windstorm, which has grounded water-dropping aircraft due to dangerous conditions. The LAFD has called on all off-duty firefighters to report for duty to help combat the fires.

Resources Stretched Thin

Firefighting resources are under immense pressure as crews juggle multiple large-scale blazes. In nearby Sun Valley, a separate fire at a commercial building spread to nearby brush, temporarily closing parts of I-5.

The LAFD continues to work tirelessly, but officials have warned that the ongoing windstorm could exacerbate the situation further.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
