VARI And Virus Mafia Join Forces On Heavy, Razor-Sharp Bass Single “Harakiri”

Tulsa-based producer VARI is making his return to NGHTMRE and SLANDER’s Gud Vibrations imprint alongside Toronto-based Virus Mafia.

Their new collaboration “Harakiri” is a futuristic banger that pulls from a wide array of bass genres ranging from trap to wave, dubstep, and beyond. The track marks VARI’s sophomore release with the label following his 2020 debut “Anodize.”

“Harakiri” is a high-octane single bringing out the best from both its creators. Ethereal melodies lay the foundation for the moody introduction. Tension-raising siren horns and rapid-fire arpeggiations are layered in to ramp up the energy, while robotic vocals deepen the sci-fi feel that’s woven throughout. The first drop is aggressive and merciless as crunchy sub-bass, trilling synths, and breakbeat fills collide. While the first drop mixes dubstep and trap, the night drive-inspired break swerves into the ever-expanding lane of wave. It’s emotive and ultramodern, possessing a polished refinement while still speaking to your soul. VARI and Virus Mafia smash the gas once more, delivering a massive explosion of murky bass, precision percussion, and anthemic synths for a fierce finale.

VARI gives listeners an inside look at how the track came together, saying, “The track started as a demo Virus Mafia had sent over, and I was immediately a big fan of the energy and attitude it had. Tried to push it up a notch, and what came out is one of the heavier tracks I’ve put out in a while, as well as one of my favorite collaborations I’ve done. Gud Vibrations was one of the first labels to support me, and feels like the perfect place to kick off 2024. ‘Harakiri’ was such a smooth collaboration process that came together into one of the hardest-hitting tracks I’ve dropped in a while. Very excited for people to hear it, and can’t imagine a better place than Gud Vibrations to put it out.”

Tulsa-grown producer VARI has been combining the most interesting components from wave, trap, dubstep, and industrial bass with his glitch-heavy sound design, amounting to a refreshing, innovative take on bass music. His unique sound has garnered support from heavy-hitters like Matt Zo, NGHTMRE, SLANDER, and Kayzo. His previous Gud Vibrations single “Anodize” drew press support from FUXWITHIT, EKM, Moon Lvnding, This Song Slaps, and more.

Virus Mafia is a Toronto-based producer of Peruvian descent who’s been making his name known with a consistent stream of bombastic trap and bass music. His energetic style has landed notable releases on Sable Valley, Barong Family, Quality Goods Records, and more. His music has also been supported by RL Grime and Flosstradamus, and the legendary, late Annie Nightingale.

“Harakiri” is a heart-racing bass anthem that illustrates why VARI and Virus Mafia are up next.
