Michelle Obama and The Roots are hosting a virtual festival experience to encourage voter registration

With the recent resurgence of COVID-19 cases in numerous states across the country, it appears that virtual festival events will continue to be the norm for the foreseeable future. Next up to the plate are The Roots who have joined forces with former first lady Michelle Obama‘s When We All Vote initiative to host the virtual edition of their annual Roots Picnic on June 27 via YouTube.

Hosted by Michelle Obama as well as The Roots’ QuestLove and Black Thought, the one-day event will feature an all-star cast of musical performances from artists like SZA, Roddy Ricch, H.E.R., Lil Baby, Polo G, and more. Obama herself as well as co-chairs of When We All Vote Kerry Washington, Janelle Monae, Tom Hanks, Chris Paul, and Lin-Manuel Miranda will be speaking throughout the event in addition to other celebrities.

When We All Vote is a non-profit organization whose mission is to increase voter participation in elections and will receive all proceeds from The Roots Picnic Virtual Festival to help their cause. The stream will begin at 8:00 p.m. EST and viewers can RSVP here.
