Tiësto teases a return to his roots with new project, VER:WEST

On July 9, Tiësto previewed a new project on Twitter, VER:WEST, that seemingly signaled a sonic reversion back to his coveted trance and progressive house roots. Verwest derives from Tiësto’s biological name, Tijs Michiel Verwest.

The track teased in the preview, which Shazam identifies as “5 Seconds Before Sunrise,” was played earlier this year at Tiësto’s Reconnected | Beatport Live set, and is expected to release on July 17 via his own AFTR:HRS. The tune uses delicate synths and a cushy bounce to diverge from the hands-in-the-air club style that Tiësto has built his sound on in recent years, breathing new life into a style that’s been largely forgotten along the way.

The upcoming single is likely a nod back to “Ten Seconds Before Sunrise,” the Tiësto classic that kicked off his 2007 LP, Elements of Life. The chief difference between the two tracks is the comparatively softer approach that “5 Seconds Before Sunrise” ultimately takes. Listen to the official teaser below.
