Yotto’s ‘Growth’ rises to the occasion on his long-awaited sophomore album

A half-decade following Hyperfall, Yotto has returned with his second full-length LP, Growth. While the Odd One Out boss has delivered a handful of projects that have been categorized under the long-form EP umbrella—including 2021’s Songs You Might Remember from Some Parties and Erased Dreams—there hadn’t been anything expansive enough to be considered an album. Building his out his own melodic niche akin to the likes of Eric Prydz and Lane 8, Yotto has found the balance between euphoric harmonies and dance music. And out now via his Odd One Out label, Growth has risen to the occasion as his long-awaited sophomore album.

Spanning 13 tracks in total and preceded by both “Just Over” and “Let You Go,” Yotto converts nearly an hour’s worth of progressive house into a gorgeous, warming journey through nature. Aptly titled, Growth displays plenty of range and maturation of Yotto’s sound, opening with an ambient and experimental-like “Intro” cut while simultaneously bordering more lighthearted sounds with “Just the Kinda Feeling” with Lost Boy. While some of the Growth offerings are best suited for late-night car drives or a sunset session on the beach—captured specifically in tracks like “Hollow”—the album’s latter half turns towards a more club and festival-driven framework, with heavier punches and energetic trance drops.
