Remarkably, with only one a single album and a handful of EPs to his name, Skrillex has spent the first decade of his career as a producer building out an extensive, prolific catalog of work. His collaborative work with artists both inside and out of the dance space has made him one of the most in-demand creators of the moment. One Skrillex joint product that stands above the pack is the OWSLA head’s Hikaru Utada feature for Kingdom Hearts 3, “Face My Fears.” The game’s critically lauded theme song, initially released in the beginning of 2019, was a beautifully complementary meshing of both artists’ strong suits, and now “Face My Fears” as received an equally alluring orchestral rendition.
The new version of “Face My Fears” comes in an expansive new release from the Kingdom Hearts franchise that rounds together all of the music from the beloved series. “Face My Fears” wasn’t Skrillex’s first foray into gaming sonics, having famously written “Reptile’s Theme” for Mortal Kombat‘s 2011 installment. The track also isn’t the first time Skrillex’s sound has been transformed into an orchestral piece with Varien’s “Orchestral Suite” included on Skrillex’s Grammy-winning Bangarang EP.
