Techno enthusiasts, prepare for the return of Plastikman. Next month, Richie Hawtin will don his famed alter ego to release a reworked iteration of his classic 1998 LP, Consumed. Montreal-based label Turbo Recordings will be releasing Plastikman’s re-imagining of Consumed as an exclusive triple-vinyl and digital release on April 1.
Lending his Grammy Award-winning knack for flawless piano compositions to the project is acclaimed pianist Chilly Gonzales. The newly reinterpreted record, Consumed In Key, is composed of ten minimal techno cuts. As a nod to the original, the LP features many similar textures and atmospheric elements throughout. “To hear ‘Consumed,’ to hear the freedom in how it was made, and to hear the confidence within which it stands behind so few elements was almost like a threat I had to respond to,” Gonzales explained in a statement. The first track from the forthcoming album is available to stream now.
