Sultan + Shepard capture euphoria on third ‘Forever, Now’ preview, ‘Neptune’

“Spoiler alert: it’s a beauty.” That was how Sultan + Shepard‘s “Trois” counterpart labeled the next musical number from Forever, Now. And Jerro‘s description of it is now being brought to reality, with Sultan + Shepard sharing a likely third and final look into their junior album—which arrives February 17—on This Never Happened.

While Forever, Now‘s first pair of previews—”Losing Ground” with Tishmal and “Making Time” with Julia Church—took the vocal route, “Neptune” sees the duo pause any vocal assistance and stand unaccompanied. Sultan + Shepard explained that “Neptune” is a sonic visualization of the sheer euphoria that they felt during a specific section of their sets in 2022, which reminded them of “why [they got into making records in the first place.” And after the label boss shared his overwhelmingly positive feedback less than 10 minutes after receiving it—calling it “one of his favorites that [they] were working on”—Sultan + Shepard knew its place on Forever, Now was permanently cemented. Fittingly named after our solar system’s eighth planet, “Neptune” lets Sultan + Shepard’s melodic house breadth shine as brightly as it ever has, capturing that sense of elation that they went into its creation process with along with the combination of “intuition, emotions, dreams, and inspiration” that they believe the planet represents. With Forever, Now less than two weeks away, stream “Neptune” below.
