Jeff Bezos Gives $266 Million To The Obama Foundation & NYU Medical

Jeff Bezos donates major funds to The Obama Foundation and NYU Langone Health.

Billionaire Jeff Bezos is giving 166-million-dollars to NYU Langone Health to improve the health and wellness of diverse populations. The New York City hospital says it’ll be used at one of its teaching hospitals and trauma centers in Brooklyn.

The Amazon founder is also giving the Obama Foundation 100-million-dollars, the largest individual contribution received by the Foundation.

A Bezos proviso stipulates the Plaza at the Obama Presidential Center being built on the South Side of Chicago be named John Lewis Plaza in honor of the late Georgia Congressman and civil rights icon.

Valerie Jarrett, a former senior adviser to Obama who serves as the foundation’s CEO, said in a statement that the foundation was “thrilled” by that idea.

Construction on The Center, Obama’s legacy project is expected to cost about $830 million. It broke ground in September with a 2025 completion date.

The gifts come on the heels of $96 million in donations from Bezos last week to 32 organizations helping homeless families.

Since stepping down as CEO of Amazon this year, Bezos has begun to focus more of his attention on philanthropy.

Last year, Bezos committed to spend $10 billion by 2030 to enhance climate change efforts through his Bezos Earth Fund.

Bezos personal wealth is estimated by Forbes at roughly $212 billion.
