Los Angeles-based bass wizard Kompany has cemented himself as one of the most consistent and prolific artists in the dubstep scene.
Meanwhile, Canadian producer Kryture has been steadily carving out his own lane in the bass space campaign of dubstep destruction. Fusing their collective talents and styles, the pair unleashes “Surge” on Bassrush Records. The single serves as a direct follow-up to Kompany’s label debut “Strapped.”
“Surge” is an electrifying burst of dubstep power that pairs lethal force with mystifying soundscapes. The introduction is nothing short of epic, layering cinematic strings, epic drum lines, and war-ready chants. It’s the perfect precursor to the climactic clash that lies ahead. Waves of distortion and industrial flourishes shift the scene before a raw vocal bleeds into the brutish low-end onslaught. A cacophony of laser synth progressions are sprayed over metallic synth grinds, choppy drums, and distorted sub-bass for a futuristic massacre. The pair allow the madness to subside for a brief respite, allowing the cinematic soundscapes to reset the scene before bringing in a finale that doubles down on the destructive explosiveness and filthy sound design. The somber outro offers a ghostly conclusion assured to linger with heads and keep them coming back for more.
Kompany opens up about how the collaboration came together, saying, “Kryture is a super underrated producer for Montreal and I’ve been playing a bunch of his bangers for years now. I had a WIP from a few years ago that I got stuck on and dished it to him and he crushed it! We went back and forth on it a few more times and ended up with ‘Surge.’ Really excited with how it came out and how well our sounds meshed together.”
Rising from the shadows, Los Angeles producer Kompany has become one of the standout acts within the realm of dubstep. The Icon Collective graduate has been leveraging his background as a sound engineer to craft some of the most masterful dubstep weapons of the past decade. His exceptional catalog includes notable collaborations with bass music behemoths like Excision, Subtronics, SLANDER, Sullivan King, Spag Heddy, and Teddy Killerz. Kompany is in the midst of his North American headline ‘QUORUM’ Tour, including plays at Exchange LA, Stereo Live, The Ritz Ybor, 45 East, and the Ogden Theater.
Montreal, Canada’s Kryture has been climbing the ranks in the dubstep scene with his ingenuity, complex melody structures, and earth-shattering bass. In just a few years he has made an indelible mark on the scene with blistering solo efforts and collaborations alongside the likes of Sam Lamar, Stoned Level, and Future Exit. His latest offering is yet another massive collaborative effort that is primed to be his biggest release yet.
Moving between cinematic and lethal, “Surge” harnesses the collective power of Kompany and Kryture for an electrifying collaboration.
