Hamdi celebrates the two-year anniversary of his breakthrough single “Skanka” with a massive vocal dub alongside legendary UK emcee P Money.
Arriving on Bassrush Records, the track will be packaged with the previous remix EP, which includes reworks from Kayzo, Nikki Nair, and sumthin sumthin, as well as the original and its subsequent VIP.
Released in December 2021, Hamdi’s “Skanka” exploded across the scene becoming the breakout bass anthem of 2022. Combining infectious Portuguese vocals with a filthy bassline and driving percussion, the track was received as an instant staple. The original mix has amassed over three million plays on Spotify alone, in addition to the Kayzo remix and VIP version sitting just above and below a million plays, respectively. The vocal dub is primed to follow suit with P Money giving the track yet another breath of new life.
With the UK sounds taking over globally, it’s only fitting that the Oxford artist connects with South East London’s P Money for the Vocal Dub of “Skanka.” Opening with the now iconic Portuguese vocal loop, the emcee makes his presence felt with a quick introduction before the blistering bassline hits as he jumps straight into the hook. P Money replaces the original vocals with his commanding voice and mic presence, making the track truly his own. Finding the rare balance of catchy and gritty, the raps elevate the track to new levels. From rave-inspired raps to violent warnings, he flexes his signature razor sharp bars over the filthy 140 groove. Mixing beastly deep dubstep with merciless grime, the pair cook up a monstrous vocal dub that is assured to bring “Skanka” back into top rotation.
Hamdi shares his excitement for the milestone release, saying, “For the two-year anniversary of ‘Skanka,’ we had to do something mad—P Money’s been one of my favourite MCs for over a decade, so to have him do a vocal dub of the track was very special and he absolutely smashed it!”
P Money adds to Hamdi’s comments, expanding on how the track came to life: “I’ve been working with Hamdi recently on another track, and he was like, ‘Yo, while you’re in the studio, check out this tune, too.’ And then after 35 seconds, I had the hook idea and the rest is history. Right now feels like the UK is making real waves around the world. So, no matter where you are right now, it’s a UK ting, ya get meeee.”
Over the past two years, Oxford’s Hamdi has risen to become one of the fastest-growing talents in bass music. Renowned for a sound that traverses breakbeat, UKG, grime, and deep dubstep, he has cemented his place within the scene. His breakout single “Skanka” became a ubiquitous anthem, landing support from every top-tier DJ out including Skrillex, Fred Again…, Four Tet, and Peekaboo. He’s hot off performances at EDC, Lightning in a Bottle, Red Rocks, Bass Coast, Shambhala, HARD Summer, Lost Lands, Goldrush Festival, and is already booked to play Holy Ship! Wrecked, and Beyond Wonderland. He’s also gearing up for headline shows in Denver (Cervantes), LA (Academy), and SF (The Midway) with more dates next year soon to be announced.
