Universal Audio releases free DAW, 'LUNA,' ahead of schedule

Universal Audio breaks into the digital audio workstation game with an early release of LUNA, a free production and mixing package that puts the highly respected audio hardware brand in the conversation with industry stalwarts like Ableton and Logic Pro.

Universal Audio’s lineage of hardware design translates wonderfully to the digital workspace, as LUNA manages a clean, even minimal UI, while still giving users ample power under the hood. Like other DAWs, LUNA relies on plug-ins and their own proprietary extensions, such as the Neve Summing Extension that’s billed to “give your LUNA mixes all the color of Neve’s most cherished analog desk.” However, these extensions are where you’ll likely have to bust out your wallet, as instruments and extensions like the Neve, or Minimoog can cost a pretty penny ($299).

With that being said, the Universal Audio’s LUNA is a valiant effort into the DAW market, which should come as no surprise to those familiar with the brand’s long-standing history of audio excellence.

LUNA is available through Universal Audio now.
