Fresh off a breakout year under his new project, Dansyn is proving that sometimes the most significant career milestones are born from the courage to start over. After spending more than a decade releasing music as DLMT, the producer made the difficult decision to leave behind an established brand and rebuild his identity from the ground up. The gamble has paid off, resulting in high-profile label releases, an expanding festival footprint, and a profound sense of creative clarity.
The Catalyst for Change
Reflecting on his journey, Dansyn notes that his musical roots run deep, beginning with instrument training at age eight. Before his transition into dance music in 2015, he toured with a rock and metal band on the Warped Tour. However, the pressures of the industry during the pandemic shifted his focus toward metrics rather than artistry.
“When COVID happened, I started making music more for streaming numbers than for myself, and I lost what made it special,” he explains. “Eventually, I started making music I genuinely wanted to make again, but it didn’t fit under the DLMT brand. It was definitely scary because I had a solid touring career, but I felt like I had reached my ceiling. Looking back now, it was absolutely the right decision.”
Authenticity in the Age of Algorithms
For artists feeling stifled by the relentless demands of social media and algorithmic trends, Dansyn advocates for a balanced approach. He believes that the current saturation of artificial intelligence and content has created a listener base that is hungrier than ever for genuine human connection.
“Obviously, we all have to play the algorithm game to some extent, but I think it’s about finding a balance,” he says. “You have to participate in social media, but you also need to stay true to your identity and not completely sell yourself out for quick streams or numbers. The artists who stand out are the ones who remain genuine.”
A Rhythmic Foundation
Dansyn’s current sound is heavily influenced by his diverse background in hip-hop and live instrumentation. He emphasizes that his records are fundamentally drum-focused, a trait he attributes to his years as a drummer. “Hip-hop also had a huge influence because it’s such a rhythm-driven genre. At the same time, playing piano helped me understand composition, songwriting, and melodies, which still plays a major role in how I build records today.”
Milestones and Future Momentum
A significant highlight of his new chapter was securing a release on John Summit’s Experts Only label. “Getting a release on Experts Only was a goal of mine. The crazy part is that it happened exactly one year after launching Dansyn. To land on my dream label that quickly was incredibly rewarding, and it’s opened a lot of doors for my career.”
Beyond the studio, Dansyn maintains his focus through a disciplined approach to physical and mental health, incorporating fitness and a strong support system—including his wife, who plays an integral role in the project’s operations. As he looks toward the future, he is focused on staying present and appreciating the growth he has achieved. “This month, I’m playing three Insomniac events. It’s a reminder to stop constantly looking ahead and appreciate how far you’ve come. There’s a lot of exciting music coming, and I’m excited to keep building on this momentum.”
