Top 10 Twerking Anthems Of All Time

Several body parts tend to receive special attention in the urban culture. For those following music trends this past decade, you already know that the appreciation for women’s backsides is a huge part of the scene. Some may call it sexist, some may consider it perverted, some may enjoy the hype, but the fact is that there is no shortage of songs encouraging women to use their buttocks and twerk for at least the past two decades. Surprisingly, the encouragement does not come only from the male demographic of artists.

Many famous female artists have made their contribution in promoting twerking as a trend. Today, we selected the top 10 twerking anthems of all time but first, let’s define the term. The songs included in the list had to have heavy-hitting beats to be heard as loud as possible. These songs also had to have music videos full of beautiful women demonstrating their amazing body parts.

This list is fire, probably the hottest you’ve ever come across, so make sure to check every name included. Let’s go!

10.Ester Dean “Drop It Low” (2009)

Remember we’ve told you females have their substantial investment in making twerking a thing? Ms. Ester Dean‘s “Drop It Low” from the late 2000s is the all-female twerking anthem the generations of fans excited about pop culture will remember.

The track is a semi-PG-rated solo debut of Ester and drew some prominent attention to the artist back in the days. “Drop It Low” is the call to girls to get on the dancefloor and do what the title suggests: drop it low, and Ester with her girls drops it really low in the music video for the track receiving her deserved place in our list.

9.Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz f/ Ying Yang Twins “Get Low” (2003)

Yet another anthem from the 2000’s hip-hop scene, calling out girls to get wild in the club. The grizzly, raspy-voiced misogynistic chart-toppers, The Ying Yang Twins and Lil Jon, are too specific in their legendary club banger “Get Low,” describing the girls very detailed how to get low:

1. Bend over to the front.

2. Touch your toes.

3. Back that ass up and down.

4. And get low.

This detailed approach definitely deserves some applause and a place on our list.

8.Duice “Dazzey Duks” (1993)

If you had an impression that twerking anthems were keeping the music scene rollin only in the 2000’s you have never been more wrong. “Dazzey Dukes” is not your usual twerking anthem encouraging women to move their beautiful body parts. Duice shows his admiration and longing for women in a rallying cry of “Dazzey Dukes.”

If some songs included in this list can be considered sexually objectifying women, this anthem aims to boost women’s self-confidence and show them how astonishing they are. The approach of a true king undoubtedly deserving of making this list a better place with his presence.

7.Uncle Luke “I Wanna Rock (Doo Doo Brown)” (1991)

Think about this track as one of the most influential songs in Booty Music or Booty Bass, known as the Miami Bass movement. It is hard to tell if the movement was inspired by twerking or vice versa, but that was the point when twerking entered the mass culture unapologetically. It is safe to call Uncle Luke the godfather of booty rap, primarily because of the release of “I Wanna Rock (Doo Doo Brown).” If you haven’t heard the track yet, you have time to correct your mistakes. Good luck and good listen!

6.Juvenile “Back That Azz Up” (1999)

Finally, we reached the prototypical twerk anthem from Juvenile called “Back That Azz Up.” Even the title gives away this banger’s energy. The rapper starts with “Girl, you working with some ass,” giving out the song’s thesis. The beats of this epic twerk anthem kept the vanity of pioneering twerk records.

Meanwhile, Juvenile redefines the already old-sounding style and brings it into the modern era of twerk culture, making “Back That Azz Up” change booty-based dancing forever. This song is a perfect example of how revolutions happen in pop culture.

5.Huey “Pop, Lock & Drop It” (2006)

Even only this song’s production level is enough to claim that this twerk anthem is underrated unfairly. The Calvin Miller-produced “Pop, Lock & Drop It” is a total banger from the mid-2000’s making the booty moving music lovers nostalgic about the good old days of hip-hop.

Huey delivers this scene-stealing T-Pain autotune based track perfectly, putting his whole energy into the stomping beats and spark-flying synthesizers offering a sparse. “Pop, Lock & Drop It” is everything needed for good twerk and deserves to get a place in our twerk anthem list for good.

4.JGOTITT “Bounce That Ass” (2020)

One of the latest booty appreciating releases from the new voice of the hip-hop scene, JGOTITT does it all to the body to make it move boldly and sexually yet intimately and playfully. The title “Bounce That Ass” already claims its purpose to make listeners want to bounce their intriguing treasures in the form of body parts. The release is atmospheric with heavy-dropping beats, hard-hitting, groovy soundscapes, and intense lyricism making you feel like a part of the twerking kingdom captured on “Bounce That Ass.” Swag pours out of this release.

The music video shows women with fantastic bodies doing what exactly the title suggests: bouncing asses around JGOTITT. “Bounce That Ass” totally deserves to be called the twerking anthem of 2020, breathing fresh air into the hype over the booties. Don’t hesitate and enjoy one of the hottest music videos on this list.

3.Diplo “Express Yourself” (2012)

This twerk anthem needs no introduction. Diplo‘s hit from 2012 is definitely remembered by many, and you were waiting for this since the beginning of the list. Here it is, the absolute masterpiece “Express Yourself,” from the master of crazy beats and epic sounds Diplo.

Filled with the artist’s signature sound beats and sound make-up, “Express Yourself” is peppered with dubstep undertones and sonic references to booming reggae radio tunes. The song immediately became a legendary twerk anthem when it was first released in 2012, and the music video is as epic as the sound of Diplo’s booty-shaking hit track.

2.Big Sean f/ Nicki Minaj “Dance (A$$)” (2011)

When it comes to twerking, the leading female hip-hop artist Nicki Minaj is the first to come to mind. Everything released by the twerk goddess Minaj, from “Anaconda” to anything she has ever done, could be included in the list. Still, her collaboration with Big Sean on “Dance (A$$)” totally steals the show in the category of twerk. The hypnotizing melody and heavy beats make the “Dance (A$$)” all the twerk lover needs.

As if the title implying the theme is not enough, the song opens with repeating “ASS ASS ASS ASS ASS ASS ASS ASS ASS” lyrics making sure we’ve got the clue. The visuals show Nicki taking center stage, shaking and bumping her butt throughout the whole clip. Her movements perfectly accompany the beat creating the twerk anthem vibe and making the release second on our list.

1.City Girls f/ Cardi B “Twerk” (2018)

If disagreements on other numbers of our list were predictable, the release “Twerk” from 2018 featuring Cardi B and City Girls leaves no place for debates. This song is all about twerking, and twerking is all about this song. With a Choppa Style-influenced beat, “Twerk” is a perfect choice for the best summer beach events and girls’ night outs. The lyrics of the song target male listeners with bold, provocative, roughly sexy lines.

However, the song’s best aspect is that it does not represent women as objects for the male gaze and pleasure, making it the one track deserving the first place on our list. “Twerk” manifests freedom and encourages girls to twerk and openly show their sexuality only for their own pleasure.

Getting loose and shaking whatever they want is only a path to breaking free and sexual liberation. Cardi and City Girls do not only make a twerk anthem but use it to empower women. We find nothing else to be more beautiful.
