ELEVATD up the ante on their first original of 2023, “Drown,” a single that sits at the intersection of trap and dubstep. Rife with texture and toplined by vocals from the production pair’s very own Chris Clingingsmith, the self-released single assertively tackles disappointment experienced at the hands of a lover, though not one of the kind that listeners would expect.
“This song was written during the pandemic about the ultimate love of my life, music, letting me down. How could I give so much to something, give it my all, and it not sustain me in return?” ELEVATD ask.
The progression of “Drown” has a sinking aspect to it that mimics the experience of a downward spiral, in an apt extension of its theme. The single adds to the sprawling catalog that ELEVATD have developed since 2017, a repertoire that stands tall at more that 60 songs, some of which have taken the Chicago duo to industry mainstay labels like Subsidia Records, Buygore, Bassweight, and Basscvlt, among others.
